The Hecht Building
The historic Hecht building's original structure's exterior has been retained and was incorporated into the City Place mall, now Ellsworth Place. The Art Deco/Modern facade represents a pioneering venture in retail trade when this major downtown retail company chose Silver Spring for establishing its first suburban department store. The business was highly successful in the expanding suburban market. The building was constructed in 1947 with additional floors added in 1950.
