Fearless Flier, 2016

David Carlson, artist

Located on the handrails of the Grand Staircase, are a series of images from David Carlson's Impermanence collection. Impermanence is an abstract art piece featuring recognizable shapes, mostly circles, but also rounded forms and lines which are used to create movement and structure in the space. The images on the handrail were recently installed along the staircase and lit with LED lights by Virginia-based abstract painter David Carlson.

David Carlson has had paintings represented in numerous collections both private and corporate, nationally and internationally. He has participated in artist exchanges with Central Asia, West Africa, and North Africa and Europe. He has had 18 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows since 1986. His works have been shown in the Pretoria Art Museum, Wichita Falls Museum of Art, Ludwig Forum, John Cabot University, Korean Embassy Cultural Service, Yacine Art Gallery, Asilah Arts Festival and the Washington Project for the Arts.
