AFI’s Silent Cinema Showcase returns with another selection of newly restored screen classics and rare gems from the silent era.
The shock of the Great War is felt through the tender tale of a rich businessman's son (John Gilbert) who enlists, leaves for France and falls for a local girl (Renée Adorée), but loses his youthful American innocence in the trenches. A little-known fact about THE BIG PARADE is that artist Andrew Wyeth was fascinated with the film — he viewed it over and over. Many details from Wyeth's paintings "Winter" (1946), "Christina's World" (1948) and "The Patriot" (1964) refer to this silent epic.
