This is the 12th year of the Community Stories Film Festival presented by Docs In Progress. The festival focuses on local documentaries made by local filmmakers from MD, DC, and Northern Virginia.
Our 2022 edition will be held virtually with live Q&As on March 11-13. You can start watching all films for free on Tuesday, March 8!
This film is a hybrid of video poetry and short-form documentary. The poem and film accurately depict my youth, and the truck, uniform, and barn were driven, worn, and built by my father. My youthful self was played by my son, and I was the hidden stand-in for my father. He spoke of the war only to those who were there. It took years for me to grasp the horrors he endured and ultimately sheltered us from. We take for granted our blessings, and often do not have thanks to offer until it is too late.
