About Our Featured Poet
Diane Wilbon Parks is a visual poet and artist. She has written two poetry collections and a Children’s Book. Diane is the founder of The Write Blend, a culturally diverse poetry circle, and was recognized as a 2020 Prince George’s County Poet of Excellence. She celebrated the permanent installation of one of her poems and artwork as a permanent sign at the Patuxent Research Refuge - North Tract. Diane’s poetry has been widely featured and highlighted in the DMV, the Poetry Poster Project which was exhibited throughout Maryland. Diane has been a longstanding literary advocate and leader in the poetry community. Her poetry is included in the International anthology “Singing in the Dark." She is also included in the 43rd and 44th Anniversary of Grace Cavalieri’s The Poet and the Poem at the Library of Congress. Diane is a USAF Veteran and Sr. IT Program Manager.
About Our Host Brenda Bunting
This unique voice is a witness to the realities and challenges of her generation. A black storyteller that takes her audience on a poetic journey between the intersections of being a woman, an African American, and an advocate who is environmentally and socially conscious. Brenda is the author of, "Poems of Love and Violence in Between Life and Death"- 1st and 2nd Editions. She recently was the featured Spoken Word Artist on "Sojourn with Words" an award-winning program hosted by the Poet Laureate of PG County, MD, Sistah Joy on PGCTV cable channel 76. A competent and insightful Facilitator, Brenda designs workshops that utilize the therapeutic use of writing poetry for mental and emotional wellness and healing from traumatic events. She is the 2019 winner of the UUCS Jazz Poetry Slam in Sterling, VA and is a life member of the Kentucky State Poetry Society (KSPS). Brenda is a volunteer speaker for RAINN and University of Kentucky alumna with a B.A. in English.
