razilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho (AQUARIUS, BACURAU) turns his camera inward in this charming personal essay, reflecting on his filmmaking journey and the dwindling cinemas of his hometown of Recife. Mendonça Filho starts the tour in his childhood home, the apartment that birthed the gonzo films of his teenage years and became the set of his breakout debut, NEIGHBORING SOUNDS. But nothing stays the same forever, and 50 years on, the apartment and neighborhood are full of specters of the past, including the movie palaces of Mendonça Filho's youth. Weaving together archival and contemporary footage with scenes from his films, he creates a melancholy yet joyful love letter to film, family and the power of cinemas.
